What to do before the thunder and lightning

Thunder and lightning - storm accompanied by lightning as a result of rapid upward movement of warm, moist air; usually accompanied by strong winds and rain and sometimes not even a little moisture.

Here are tips to keep in mind

1. Prepare an emergency/survival kit and make a family communications plan.
2. Trim dead or rotting trees or branches.
3. Postpone outdoor do.
4. Make sure the durable ties with the outside of the home may be blown or cause injury.
5. Enter the home, building, or car with a rigid roof.
6. Close blinds, shade or window curtains.
7. Remove any electronic equipment before the lightning.

Remember the 30/30 rule safety during lightning

1. Estimate the gap between the lightning detection and counting of 30. After seeing the lightning and you count up to 30 before you hear thunder, go inside the house.
2. Stay within the home or building for 30 minutes after hearing the last thunder.
