What to do during a tornado?

Inside the building

(Example: home, small building, school, nursing home, hospital, factory, shopping center, upheld building)

1. Go to the designated shelter such as a safe room, basement, storm cellar, or the lowest floor of the building.
2. If there is no basement, go to the middle of a room on the lowest floor (Interior passage) away from corners, windows, doors, and outside walls. Go between more walls as possible between you and the outside, take cover under the study table and use your arms to protect your head and neck.
3. In a high-rise building, go to a small interior room or hallway on the lowest floor possible.
4. Do not open windows.

Outdoors without shelter

1. Enter immediately in the car, put on the seat belt, and try to drive to the nearest decent housing.
2. If the vehicle was hit by flying debris while you are driving, pull over the car and park it.
3. Stay in the car wearing a seatbelt. Hang your head lower than the windows; cover your head with your hands and blankets, coats, or other shields as possible.
4. If you get a quick and safe place below the level of the road, leave the car and lie to cover your head with your hands.
5. Do not get under an overpass or bridge. Safer in a low, flat area.
6. Do not try to outrun the tornado in the dense area by a car or truck. Instead, leave the vehicle immediately and look for safe shelter.
7. Beware of flying debris (object). The flying debris from the cyclone is a common cause of death and injury.
