Medication for Dog and Cat Bite

Many Filipinos bite a dog or cat. It is not safe because it can cause rabies. Each year, 600 people die of rabies, and 100,000 were vaccinated against rabies. Rabies is transmitted in the saliva and urine of dogs, cats, rats, and bats. When hit by a rabies patient, wait for 3 to 8 weeks before you have symptoms. The symptoms of rabies are numbness in the area of the wound, losing, salivation and stiff face.

Note: Once a symptom of rabies is difficult to treat. Consequently, we have treated all the bites of dogs and cats.

First-aid for dog bites and cat:

1. Wash the wound with soap and water for 10 minutes.

2. Put a povidone-iodine on the wound. Do not apply ointment or cover the wound tight. We want to take the saliva of animals possibly carrying rabies.

Note: Do not put the garlic, vinegar, fish sauce or soy wound. It is not curative and may cause more tetanus.

3. Take the patient immediately to the hospital or Animal Bite Center as PGH Taft Avenue, San Lazaro Hospital in Carriedo, Manila, RITM in Alabang and large hospitals.

4. Catch the dog and observe it for 10 days. When the dog showed signs of rabies (drooling and wild), bring it to the designated hospital (such as RITM) for examination of the brain of the animal.

When the vaccine:

1. When a saliva have made only the animals and no lesions on the skin, it's safe and does not need to be vaccinated.

2. But when animal bite wounds and have need of vaccination against rabies. Observe the dog for 10 days. When nothing happened to the animal, meaning it does not have rabies and safe patient.

3. When the dog bites deep or bitten in the face or neck, must immediately give vaccinations and medications the patient. Bring the aforementioned hospital.

Tips to prevent rabies:

1. To prevent accidents and harm other people, vaccinate your dog.

2. Do not let the dog loose and put this string.

3. Report dogs respect for authority.

4. When walking on the road ., bring an umbrella to avoid the dog.

5. Do not let children play with your pet.

6. Do not bother the animals while they are eating, sleeping or caring for their children.

7. When you have wounds on the body, do not let the dog lick your wounds and may contaminate the rabies virus.

8. In taking care of animals, can be vaccinated against rabies. Consult your doctor.
